This story is about 101-year-old "Tutie" Mier, who shares some of the experiences that have shaped her century on earth.
The Get Old effort will help Pfizer achieve Imperative 3: Earn Greater Respect From Society. The goal is to inspire and activate people of all ages to reconsider what it means to get old and to change perceptions about aging at every stage of life.
Florence “Tutie” Mier has seen the world change in her 101 years. She was born in 1912 – the year the Titanic sank – and during her childhood her family would house travelers heading West by stagecoach.
Now the oldest resident of Lewiston, Utah, Mier has seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren and enjoys spending her time making rugs, canning applesauce, and solving Sudoku puzzles.
“I would be happy to live to 120 if I could keep these legs going and keep digging,” she said in reference to another of her favorite hobbies – gardening. Her most important life lesson? “Appreciate what you’ve got.”
