Pfizer has been informed that some colleagues and retirees covered by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Pfizer's Blue Cross Blue Shield administrator) were impacted by the cyber attack on the IT systems of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The attack compromised the personal information of approximately 80 million current and former Anthem customers and employees. Pfizer retirees currently enrolled in Horizon were informed by mail about the data breach, and impacted colleagues and retirees are being notified by Anthem through U.S. mail. Retirees who are no longer enrolled in Horizon but have either been members in the past or used Blue Cross Blue Shield in the affected states* are encouraged by Anthem to enroll in free credit monitoring for themselves and their covered dependents.
Details about the credit monitoring service are available at AnthemFacts.com. Questions relating to this incident can be directed to AnthemFacts.com/faq or Anthem's dedicated toll-free number: 877-263-7995.
Pfizer also contracts with United Healthcare for claims administration, but United Healthcare was not affected by this data breach. Pfizer remains committed to protecting the information of our health plan participants, and contracting with companies who share that commitment.
