As we enter April, we step into Move More Month. Move More Month is the American Heart Association’s initiative to transition their original National Walking Day into a full month challenge. Their goal is to encourage participants to live an active lifestyle by starting to incorporate exercise into their daily routine.
Participation only requires 30 minutes out of your day for the full month of April. These 30 minutes of exercise can be spent alone or serve as a good reminder for quality time with family, friends or pets. Use the time to do an exercise that you enjoy such as walking or swimming. Or switch it up and do something out of the ordinary like take a dance class or learn karate. Be sure to mix it up!
According to the American Heart Association, exercising for as little as a half hour daily can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other cardiovascular-related illnesses. For those who have knee or other joint problems, light walking is a great exercise to get started with because of it’s low-impact limiting stress on those joints.
This month give your heart and mind some exercise and make sure to get your 30 minutes in daily.
