Chief Medical Officer gets to the bottom of why some patients skip their medications.
On a recent episode of “Dr. Phil,’ Freda Lewis-Hall sat down with couple Linda and Ron to understand why Linda, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, doesn’t take her meds. Freda explained why being adherent is so important, especially when managing a chronic illness.
“There are a whole range of reasons that people have for why they don’t want to take medication, and being nervous about the risks is a very common one,” Freda said in response to Linda’s concerns. “Twenty to 30 percent of prescriptions don’t get filled in the first place. And half of medications for chronic illnesses don’t get taken as prescribed.”
